Shipping Corp of India (SCI) has sold a suezmax tanker that suffered a fatal blaze a year ago on 13th April 2019. Indian owner finds buyer for ship on which chief engineer died last year.
The company said the 147,000-dwt Maharaja Agrasen (built 1995) was handed over to the unnamed buyer’s representative this week at Galle anchorage, Sri Lanka.
Clarksons lists the vessel as laid up. VesselsValue assesses it as worth $9.12m for further trading or $6.97m for scrap.
Last year, chief engineer Prakash Patyal died after a fire on the ship.Two colleagues were also injured in the blaze on the vessel.
The fire broke out near Buchar island on 13 April. Patyal died two days after the blaze, while the other two crew remained in intensive care. They were named as second engineer Subhash Ravthan and colleague Tejo Charuvilayal.
The ship had been anchored at jetty four to discharge Saudi Arabian crude. The vessel was later moved out to anchorage 15 miles offshore.
At the time of incident last year, It had 90,000 tonnes of oil on board. The crew numbered 39 at the time, reports said.
