German police boarded and searched Montenegro bulk carrier BUDVA in the morning May 2, when the ship arrived at Hamburg. Half a ton of cocaine was found hidden in what was described as “cargo area” – either in hold or in cargo.
Of 23 crew, all Montenegro nationalities, 1 was arrested.
The ship arrived at Hamburg from Santos Brazil via Casablanca, Morocco. Reportedly, drug bust and arrest were the final result of a joint counter drug operation, involving law enforcement agencies of several countries. According to official statement, one more drug trafficking link between South America and Europe was cut.
